Weeeeeeeeeee!

The owners of the house we made an offer on sent a counter offer requiring that we let them live there through the end of June, paying rent. They accepted our price, and paying for the inspections we wanted.

There's inspections and Escrow to go, but we tentatively have a house!!!

I wonder what I can get started in the garden plot in July....

So, more details are coming when?

Like when the housewarming party is?

Such details will come when we're certain we'll be getting the place. Since we're moving in July, I'd expect we'll have a housewarming in late July or sometime in August, but that's just a guess.
Also, in response to your Facebook comment, Yes, there's space to dance, we think.

*bounce*

Most stuff is in the 'watching, watering, and harvesting' stage then. But you could put in a late crop of beans, summer squash, basil, and possibly some of the root things like radishes and beets. For a plot you don't really expect a crop from this season, cover it with cowpeas to dig under in September when you put in your brassicas (broccoli and its relatives).

So, we've just been offered the opportunity to go in in a couple of weeks when things are all a little more final, and plant whatever we'd like in the garden space they've got set up. Ideas?

I've got tomatoes for you if you want them. :)

Beans and corn can go in then. It's still early enough and the soil is plenty warm. The hard part is keeping the top few inches wet for a bit while things germinate and get roots down. Thin mulch of straw helps.

Actually, almost any of your summer crops can be planted in May. Sure you'll get to harvest a bit later than planting in April, but not that much.
