Helen first came noticeably into my life back in the college years when she got a bunch of us to join the church. I've always been amazed by her work on social justice, her wisdom, and the amazing daughter she raised. As with so many things my most recent appreciation of her revolves around her help with Josh. She has been incredibly generous and helpful.

Alice Harvey is a sweet and generous spirit. I've been amazed by the service that she does walking the walk of faith in the past.

Lately I've become even more grateful to her as I've gotten to know her with Josh as the nursery lady. She's there almost every Sunday, and frequently for extra curricular church activities. She's great with Josh, and knows him and us well enough to know when to shoe us out of the nursery. Sometimes she even gets him to nap. She is truly amazing.

Rachel is hopefully busy having, or enjoying having given birth to her baby girl, and I hope everything goes smoothly, and she enjoys her maternity leave. She has been a really supportive manager. She draws lines when necessary, is knowledgable, and proactive about training.

Nick is a terrific addition to any game. He's silly fun. Will make that joke, and makes everything a little more fun.

I think I just saw a Prius station wagon, which is the car I'm sort of lusting after. It made me think of mom's old dinosaur. It was a huge (to my 3 to 5 year old self) brown fake wood paneled station wagon. It had a U of seats in the back, so that a bunch of us kids could sit facing each other. Now a days this wouldn't work, because we woulda have to be in carseats

I've actually been keeping up daily on Facebook, but a combination of technical difficulties and sleep deprivation (Kosh is working on 4 teeth) mean they're only there at some point when I'm on an actual computer I'll probably copy them over here too.

Laura, Brian's mom can drive me crazy, but she's also a blessing. She's generous and kind. She's great with Josh. She is a phenomenal and prolific artist, and she's the matriarch of an amazing family that I am blessed to be a part of.

Joji is one of my coworkers. She is organized and clear in her requests. She plans ahead, and gets in needed paper work on, or ahead of schedule. She comes up with ways to avoid or minimize foreseeable problems. She responds quickly, clearly, and accurately to information requests, and she puts up with bureaucracy with sometimes amazing patience. And she manages to do all this while being friendly and considerate.

Liz on the bus.
Liz knows everyone on the bus who doesn't avoid her. She greats people by name, and remembers what's going on with them. She's friendly and sweet, and the ride home just feels a little wrong when she's not there.

Mom is well a mom. I find I take a lot of what I think I should do and be as a mom from what she did and was for us. She's always been supportive and encouraging, and she's been there to help when I've needed her. I'm really amazed by her current calling. She spent years being a fabulous teacher to students who not everyone thinks are important, and finding that was not enough took early retirement to go to seminary, and is now a local pastor at a couple small churches in Missouri. If heaven is difficult to get into (which I don't believe, but if it is) and I get in it will be because she's managed to pull some strings for me.
I haven't been calling her as much as I used to which makes me sad. She is the first blessing in my life.

Zora is an inspiration, full of insight, love, laughter, and wonder.

When we've done Bible study together she has articulated ideas that ring true in my heart.

If I turn out to be half as good as she is it will be an accomplishment.

I am awed by all that she does, and warmed and amazed by her joy as she does it.

Grandma passed away a couple of years ago.

But today she seems the right person to post about.

She has always been a rock of stability, wisdoms, and things just right.

Some of my happiest memories involve her house, or visits with her.

It was a great sadness for me that she passed away before Josh was anticipated.

Yet since Josh has come along I've had a sense that we're being watched over.

She will still be a blessing in my life for a long time.

Sonya is my little sister, and a great source of joy and inspiration.

She's probably always been more adult than I have her credit for, but it's become especially obvious watching her with her little girl. She is an amazing mother, a generous spirit, and a wise soul, and I am blessed to have her as my younger sister!

Dad

I haven't always gotten along well with my dad, but as I get older I find more of him in myself. Now I'm by no means perfect, but I'm okay with me most days.

He's supported me any number of times when I've needed it.

Also he periodically gives me reasons to laugh.

He is a blessing I need to remember more.

Anita

Anita is like a big sister. I see her far too seldom, but she always makes me smile when I see her.

She is, and was when we met an amazing human being with a plethora of stories to tell and a spark of adventure.

She is a blessing in my life because she notices things that I don't until she points them out and then I'm amazed.

Simon is my little brother. He is an excellent father, and a generous and caring man.

He tries to make sure we as a family stay in touch.

I am thrilled that he has found a wonderful partner to share his life with.

He is a blessing in my life because he keeps me connected.

Julie is generous and caring, and she understands my yurning to raise a goat.

She's been particularly helpful with advice stuff and time in relation to Josh.

She's a blessing in my life because she exemplifies that you can be totally and completely in love with your baby, and show through that yourself.

She's the kind of person I'd like to be when I grow up.

Josh's enthusiasm and curiosity help bring wonder into my day. His eager greeting to everyone he meets is a reminder of the call to love all of our neighbor.
Raising him this year has been a blessing that has pushed me to grow in directions I didn't even know were there.

I'm stealing an idea from @Seana McGuire. For Vday she posted about how much she loved and appreciated people in her life. I've been pondering something to do for Lent, and this would be a great way to remember the blessings in my life. Here I have a question LJ, facebook or +G?

In relation to whalejudge's latest post

Angels in a dungeon crawl
Tell us things not true at all
Streetwise thief is not a fool
We do not lay down one tool

Mor-or-or-oradine

Proud cries from Bormina ring
Hammer and healing does she bring
Guiding the new Orcis lad
He will be no longer bad

I've recently seen a number of posts calling for courtesy or an absence of hatefulness. I'm not personally experiencing this people are generally amazingly nice to a tired looking woman with a baby strapped to her chest.

I know that there are problems with the rule if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all, but there are definitely merits to making that a stop and think point.

I'm tempted to suggest a counter strike of love mail. Pick someone you don't usually follow read enough of their blog to find something you like to post about comment email whatever. I'd go for a female since they( I haven't received any) seem to get more of the hate mail.

In general be excellent to eachother!

And now for the life update. We survived August! We hosted my mom, visited summer camp, went to worldcon, shot a wedding, it was a blast and we are done! This weekend is blissfully free of anything but honey dos and routine.

Kosh has trucked along for all but the wedding. He got time with the grandparents instead, a win for everyone! He has started eating rice-cereal, partially moved to crib sleeping,( we put him down in the crib first, and return him to it after getting him back to sleep unless we've fallen asleep, or it's close to when we get out of bed), started scooting and expanded rolling, and worked on pulling himself up on crib railing. At his 6 month appointment the Wednesday before Worldcon he was up to 18 lbs 12 oz.

In the small world notes: at the inlaws church last Sunday
Her: Do you know my daughter, you look like people who would know her,
Me: maybe
Her: she goes by Gerbile.
Me: Oh yes ....

Knowing the amazing woman that is Gerbile I take it as quite the compliment to look like someone who would know her even if I suspect it was the utilikilts and mad scientist union polos.

So I've been back to work for a week.

Baby seems to be doing well staying home with dad, who is amazing!

I seem to be producing more milk than he needs. The freezer's building up quite the supply.

Kosh tends to wake up when I get up in the morning for a snack, and then go back to sleep. I miss him during the day, but we're both doing okay.

Work is easing me in pretty well. I've put in my application for the management job, so hopefully that will pan out.

edited since we are not psychic but I'm apparently easily distractable.
