What the Fing F #Stubenville Rape

So I know I'm behind the times, but I read about the Stubenville Rape this morning, and I was incensed. Really what the fucking fuck.
Cut here for anyone who doesn't want to read about it.
Apparently a couple of good high school boys found a girl who was incapacitated with drink and raped her. This is appalling the media is outraged, which would be reasonable if they were outraged for the girl, or that the boys were doing something like this, but NO.
The media is apparently upset because of the punishment these two convicted rapist are receiving. They apparently lament that this will ruin the boys life, and it probably will.
What's really outraging about this is that they make it sound like the boys had no part in bringing this ruin on themselves. Like some how they got to this point and thought it would be okay to rape someone, and that this was okay.
It occurs to me that this is the most disgusting part of this issue.
It is possible that they did think it would be okay. They obviously not only did it, but took (or had taken) and posted video and pictures (that's the part of this they seem to be apologizing for).
It is possible that the rape culture has gone so far that it didn't occur to them to do anything else, and if that is the case it is not them who should be punished, but all of us.
There's a lot of victim blaming going on in this case as in all publicized rape cases. People say:
She shouldn't have got drunk
She shouldn't have worn X
whatever
This is fucking bullshit. It's possible that any of these might have stopped her from being raped, but not guaranteed. It is however not possible that any of these things forced somebody to rape her.
If someone told any woman or girl that if they came across a scantily dressed incapacitated guy she wouldn't be able to keep herself from raping him we'd look at the speaker as insane. That is what they're saying about these two boys.
I'm thrilled to say that I got most of my details about this from 2 shining examples of men:

In fact I don't know a single man, or boy who would think this action is appropriate. I can't fathom where such buys come from. Except that apparently they come from here.
And we need to change this.

This is my son terrifying us by climbing over daddy's head last Saturday. He's two. I'm already talking to him about how if they aren't having fun you have to stop (in our case around chasing games, and rough play) I'm not sure how much of it's getting through right now but we'll keep it up.
I don't want him growing up in a society that thinks he can't keep himself from raping someone.
Rape is horrible and demeaning and no one should ever have to go through it, but think about growing up with people assuming you're one skimpy miniskirt away from becoming a rapist.
It's never her fault, but it may be ours.
Edited to correct these weren't college boys they were high school boys.

Date: 2013-03-21 02:52 pm (UTC)This girl was at a party with a bunch of people who were her "friends" and this is how her friends take care of her. I've read a bunch about this town--apparently even Traci Lords (porn star) is coming out with stories about horrifying rape in this town. :(
I'm really glad I don't have to live in a place like this. I know they exist all over the place.
