Kid:
Kosh and I had a nice conversation this morning on the way to the bus.  As useful backround:

As many of you may have observed Groblek and I do an air kiss thing at eachother, and now at Kosh.  It is going to be represented here at "mPaa".  Kosh got a note home from daycare saying that he'd been "hitting his friends" yesterday.  In the morning he's in the Ergo, so we're right up close to face to face.  Also in my defence there are several relatively similar sounds that mean multiple things.  Here I'm translating them to what I think they were.

As we leave the house
Kosh: mPaa Daddy mPaa Daddy
Kay: Are you giving Daddy kisses
Kosh: yeah....mPaa Mommy
Kay: Yes
Kosh: mPaa Mommy
Kay: Are you giving Mommy kisses
Kosh: yeah
Kay: *kiss* Mommy likes kisses

....

Kay: Do you like to play with G (one of the boy's in Kosh's daycare room)?
Kosh:yeah A (another boy from the room)
Kay: Do you like to play with A?
Kosh: yeah
Kay:Do you want to go to G's birthday party?
Kosh: yeah A
Kay:What should we get for G? (it was a long shot I know, but it couldn't hurt to ask)
Kosh: A
Kay: You can play with G and A

At this point I spent some time encouraging Kosh to be nice to G.  G's parents are not together, and as a child of divorce I figure I should try to encourage Kosh to be especially nice to G.  Besides G seems to be a nice boy.  A's a nice boy too, but a little on the rambunctious side.  Kosh periodically said "yeah".  I get the odd impression he's learning "yes, dear" from Groblek.

....

Kay: Can you remember to use your gentle hands with people?
Kosh:....
Kay:Kosh, can you remember not to hit?
Kosh:....
Kay: Kosh, why are you hitting your friends? (I'm not sure he has the concept of why yet, but he might)
Kosh:...
Kay: If you want to hit someone can you tell one of your teachers?
Kosh: yeah

Very much enjoying more communications with Kosh.

Kay:

I've been doing better lately.  I think I'm generally dissatisfied with a lack of busyness at work, and if I'm not careful that oozes out into the rest of life.  I'm working on it a bit on my own, and may talk to my supervisor about more work.  I know I've mentioned volunteering for a couple of things to a few coworkers and they look at me like I'm nuts...of course they look at me like I'm nuts when I say I'm an excell junkie too.

I like the "gentle hands" phrase! The whole conversation also works if "..." is the sullen teenager choosing to not respond.

I'm just glad ... wasn't replaced by a loud "NO"

This is fascinating, thanks for sharing this.

Yeah, "why" is a big concept. Wait till he learns and starts using that word.

Glad you like it.

I'm sure he'll pick up on why and we'll spend a lot of time answering questions, but I hope once he gets it he never lets it go.
